Monkey Republic was established back in 2005 by a few intrepid individuals… Legend says the founders of Monkey Republic were a group of half monkey/half men type of “Yeti” folk, from the deepest reaches of the jungle… Others maintain it was founded by the original members of the 80’s pop band “Bananarama”… Whatever the truth may be – backpackers the world over now know the name – Monkey Republic.

At Monkey we tried to re-create the best of the many hostels and guest houses we travelled to and stayed in around the world, what started as a simple guesthouse has grown into Sihanoukville’s backpacker central. Today we employ around 40 amazing Khmer staff and welcome guests from every corner of the world.

Monkey Republic is British run, open all year round and always busy! It’s the best place in town to meet up with other backpackers, let your hair down or just chill out with a nice cup of tea.
